Bebek (Neighbourhood)
Bebek is a great place to visit when you have some free time. The name 'Bebek' means 'baby' in Turkish. There are different beliefs about how the area got its name. Some say it comes from a shortened version of "the apple of the Bosphorus' eye" in Turkish. Others think it was named after a man, Mustafa Celebi, who was in charge of the area after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. Still, others believe it comes from a Turkish expression meaning 'pretty as a baby'. Bebek has been a sought-after residential area since Ottoman times, and its historic architecture sometimes reminds people of the lost cosmopolitanism of the past. Today, it's famous for its trendy restaurants, cafés, and shops that attract the city's more affluent residents.
Asiyan Museum
You can visit; The Asiyan Museum, formerly the residence of poet Tevfik Fikret from 1906 to 1915, which holds historical significance. In 1940, the Istanbul Municipality acquired the house from Tevfik Fikret's wife, Nazime Hanim, and established it as the Literature Museum in 1945. After Tevfik Fikret's burial site was moved to the garden he cherished in 1961, the museum was renamed "Asiyan Museum". Tevfik Fikret personally designed the house and chose the name "asiyan," which means "home" in Persian. You can visit this museum every day except on Mondays, between 09:00-16:00.
Borusan Contemporary Museum
Borusan Contemporary is an institution that is fed by the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection and includes various programs such as exhibitions, events, educational activities, new works, and site-specific installations. The common feature of these activities is that they focus on 'media arts' in their broadest definition, that is, artists who use time, light, technology, video, software, and similar tools. The events take place at Borusan Holding's office in "Perili Kosk" (the Haunted Mansion) Istanbul, thus creating a new model by creating a unique museum within the office. With its breathtaking Bosphorus view, the entire building, including exhibition spaces, offices, Museum Cafe, Borusan ArtStore, and terraces, is open to the public on weekends.
