Rumeli castle

Rumeli Castle

Rumeli Hisari, a magnificent castle located on the European side of Istanbul, which you can see from your Bosphorus cruise.

Rumeli Hisari, also known as the Rumelian Castle, was built in the 15th century by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II as a strategic military fortification. The castle was constructed in just four months and played a crucial role in the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.

As you approach the castle from the water, you'll notice its imposing size and strategic location at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus. The castle was designed to control and defend this strategic point and to prevent any enemy ships from entering the city.

Rumeli Hisari is a stunning example of Ottoman military architecture, featuring massive stone walls, towers, and battlements. The castle also offers spectacular views of the Bosphorus and the surrounding hills.

Today, Rumeli Hisari is open to the public and serves as a museum and cultural center. Visitors can explore the castle's towers, ramparts, and dungeons, and learn about its fascinating history through interactive exhibits and displays.
