According to Ottoman culture, Sultans must sign structures, expeditions, and rescripts that will be remembered by history. For this reason, when we look at the location of the Blue Mosque, it is correct to say that Sultan Ahmed II competed for status with the Byzantine emperor who built Hagia Sophia. First of all, the largest mosque accepted for Islam is the Mecca mosque. Architecturally, the Blue Mosque looks very different from the Mecca mosque. A main dome, 4 half domes, and 12 small domes used in the Blue Mosque tell us that it is a basilic structure. Its similarities with Hagia Sophia are almost the same. At this point, the basilic order used in the construction of churches was also used for the Blue Mosque. According to Sultan Ahmed II, the Blue Mosque is more perfect and beautiful than Hagia Sophia because the number of domes is higher than Hagia Sophia and the Iznik tiles used in it add artistic value to the mosque.
