Dimitri Kantemir House Museum

This house museum, located in Fener, Istanbul, was built by Dimitri Kantemir to keep his memory alive. It was opened as a museum in 2007 with a ceremony attended by the President of Romania. Although it is currently closed to visitors, you can see this historic house from the outside.

Dimitri Kantemir was a Romanian Prince who was captured by the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III. During his captivity, he was educated at Fener Greek Boys' High School and learned 11 different languages. After his release in 1711, Dimitri Kantemir settled in Russia and entered the service of Russian Tsar Peter I. He held various important positions in the Russian government, was appointed ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, and became governor of Moldova.
