What’s Around the Chora Museum?

Chora Museum is located in the historic Fatih district of Istanbul, bordered by the ancient city walls, the Golden Horn, and the Sea of Marmara. Named after the Ottoman ruler Mehmed the Conqueror, the district began developing around the Fatih Mosque, built under Sultan Mehmed II’s orders after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453.

This area, known as the Historical Peninsula, is surrounded by Eyup to the north, Marmara to the south, Zeytinburnu to the west, the Golden Horn to the northeast, and Bayrampasa to the northwest. It includes several of Istanbul’s famous seven hills.

Among these hills, you'll find important landmarks: Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque on one hill; Cemberlitas and Nuruosmaniye Mosque on another; and Beyazit Mosque, Istanbul University, and Suleymaniye Mosque on a third. Additionally, the Fatih Mosque, Yavuz Selim Mosque, Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, and Kocamustafapasa districts are also notable.
